Small Business Sidekick: Welcome (Back)
It’s been a few years since I’ve written here on Small Business Sidekick’s official blog (most of my previous posts will be refreshed here in the coming months), but after some time away, I’m more excited than ever to pick up where I left off (for those that were following along a few years ago).
The past few years have been… interesting — to say the least.
With 2025 now in full sprint, new updates to Small Business Sidekick’s brand and some new clients added to our growing portfolio, I wanted to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself and give you a bit of a snapshot of our history, what we do, who we work with, how and why we do what we do and what to expect if you work with us.
About Small Business Sidekick
Now in year nine (already), Small Business Sidekick was really created for my small business clients.
It was (and still very much is) a way to offer my clients a holistic set of digital marketing offerings, customized to each individual client to help them get started & grow their small business through their digital channels.
Throughout the past 9 years, I’ve had the opportunity to help several small businesses start & develop their businesses, serving as their “silent Sidekick” in the digital domain.
As someone who has only worked with small businesses over the years, I understand (perhaps more than most) some of the unique challenges each faces when it comes to digital marketing (and marketing in general, really).
Not every small business is built the same, and all have different goals — it’s a challenge I’ve always welcomed over the years.
What We Do
To be clear & transparent, by “we” I mean myself and a few highly skilled professionals, and a powerful, human-led & managed technical stack.
I do much of the design work for the small business branding work & other content & creative projects, lead the content & social media management and guide the paid advertising management for my clients.
I also have laid the groundwork, assembled & customized a rock-solid, simple small business technical stack, which allows my clients to focus less on their technical needs, and more on what matters most — their clients and customers.
There’s much more that happens behind the scenes here, however.
The small business world often changes quickly without digital marketing integrated, and with it, I feel it requires a more holistic approach to ensure each base is covered correctly for my clients.
Who We Work With
Working with many different industries over the years I’ve found that my process & methodology works best with small businesses that match a certain criteria.
Although I love hearing everyone’s small business story, the process and approach that I take is the best fit for small businesses in home services (local service area businesses in general) like HVAC, moving companies, house painting, swimming pool contractors, home & business security, among other highly skilled trades.
I’ve also worked with single location (or two location) family owned business, solo owner/operator businesses, car washes, local retail, excavation, construction and construction support industries.
And finally, much like myself I love working with solo owner/operator businesses – local entrepreneurs and startups.
Many of these industries benefit from my strongest, and most experienced service line – search engine optimization (SEO).
SEO is how my journey into digital marketing began, and — if you look close and hard enough – can also serve as the heart of many business’ digital marketing plans.
Having my current holistic collection of service offerings available allows my clients to go from scratch to planning & executing long-term strategies, simply and seamlessly.
Where We Can Help
My personal small business journey has taken me from small town Wisconsin, to South Carolina and finally back to Wisconsin a few years ago.
That said, I’ve had best fits with small businesses in both Wisconsin and South Carolina, as well as in the state of Texas.
As mentioned, I love hearing everyone’s small business story – no matter where they call home – but being a small business owner myself, I know the challenges of stretching yourself too thin.
That said, if you’re in Wisconsin, South Carolina or Texas – I’d love to connect.
Why We Do What We Do
Though the definition of small business can change depending what resource you’re looking at, Small Business Sidekick is very much a small business built for small business.
It can be overwhelming for a lot of small business owners to sift through the abundance of digital marketing material online.
It can be even more overwhelming to have to approach 5-10 different specialists in order to put a digital marketing plan into place.
I’ve always wanted to be a focal point for my clients — simplifying & supporting their digital marketing needs as they begin & develop their own small business journey.
For my clients, I’m almost always available to answer their questions in the digital marketing space – allowing them to always know who to turn to when they have questions related to their small businesses.
How We Do It
While many that I work with feel like they need to make dramatic (large) changes to succeed online, I’ve found that in most cases a series of small changes, carefully applied over time — can often yield the best, long-lasting results.
“Small changes, over time” is actually what inspired my new look & branding.
The “delta” symbol (δ), which is the source of this inspiration takes on many meanings in our world.
Of those meanings, “small changes, over time” is the most common — a meaning that perfectly aligns with my approach to all dimensions of digital marketing for my clients.
What To Expect Working With Small Business Sidekick
I’ll keep this short here — if you’re a small business that fits well with Small Business Sidekick, you can expect the following:
1. Diligent Communication
2. Relentless Effort
3. Ruthless Commitment & Genuine Care For Your Small Business
More often than not, small businesses can fail because they’re missing some or all of the above – whether communication with customers, vendors or folks supporting their business, inconsistent or sporadic effort or not having someone as committed to their small business as they are themselves.
There are no guarantees in the small business world — but I can guarantee that if you’re a match for working with us, you can expect to get all of the above throughout our time working together.
So, whether you’re new here or checking back in – thanks for stopping by — and be on the lookout for regular updates here in 2025 (and beyond).
